The Alternate Chronicles - A Double Review
Tracey Barski is an independent author out of Colorado. Her debut series, the Alternate Chronicles, is nearly complete at the time of this writing.
The first two books are stunning. Captivating, compelling, that rare breed of book that’s nearly impossible to put down. The series follows Cassidy Marchand (pronounced Marchaund - French ancestry) as she is propelled through space into an alternate dimension. If that isn’t bad enough, she quickly finds out this new reality’s version of her has been murdered.
The mystery of these books is two-fold. Find the killer, and find out why the heck Cass has been dimension jumping. Add in a hot cop and some friction… let’s just say this series checks off a lot of boxes. If you’re more into romance, absolutely pick it up (there is no spice, which honestly fits the story well and the hot parts are still hot). If murder mystery is your vibe, absolutely pick it up. If you like reality shifting sci-fi, pick it up (though prepare to wait until book two for any kind of answers).
Barski works as a freelance editor, and you can see it in the writing. I challenge readers to find those little errors often so prevalent in indie books. Her writing is clean, crisp, and concise. The prose is well done, the dialogue is strong, and at no point do you look at a page and go ‘well, that would never happen.’
This series quickly became a favorite of mine and, if I haven’t already sold you on the books, my mom read the first one in two days and immediately demanded I take her to get the second one.
I will either post a second review, or update this one when the third and final installment of the series comes out. I—along with the rest of Barski’s readers—wait with baited breath for that day to get here.
A five star rating, across the board.
